Male Suspect Arrested for Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Ammunition in Polokwane


*Polokwane, 08 March 2025* – In a significant operation, a 41-year-old male suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Friday, 07 March 2025, at Masoma village, situated in the Maake policing area of the Mopani District. The arrest resulted from a tip-off regarding the possession of a firearm by the suspect.


Members of the Provincial Tracking Team acted on the intelligence received and coordinated with the Mopani Tracking Team, Mopani Highway Patrol, and Tzaneen TRT. Together, they identified the suspect's address and executed a tactical approach to search the premises. During the search, police discovered a firearm along with five live ammunition rounds in the suspect’s possession. The individual was unable to provide a lawful explanation for having these items.


The suspect has been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as unlawful possession of ammunition. He is scheduled to appear before the Maake Magistrate's Court on Monday, 10 March 2025.


Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, expressed pride in the collaboration between local residents and police, stating, "I am so proud of the residents of Masoma village who trusted the police with this sensitive information which led to this arrest and seizure. SAPS members, you have done excellent work to remove unlicensed firearms from wrong hands."


This operation underscores the importance of community cooperation in enhancing safety and security in the region.
