TEACHER ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY RAPING 13-YEAR-OLD LEARNER


A shocking case of alleged rape has shaken a primary school outside Polokwane, Limpopo, after a 58-year-old teacher was arrested for repeatedly raping a 13-year-old learner.

According to Provincial Education Department spokesperson Mike Maringa, the teacher was caught with the learner at the school office on Thursday, prompting the principal to report the matter to the police.

Maringa commended the principal for taking swift action, saying, "The Limpopo Department of Education commends the principal of the school where the 13-year-old is a learner, who took the effort to report the matter for further handling by police."

Social workers have been dispatched to counsel the learner, while police investigations continue. The department will also conduct its internal investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the alleged rape.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of learners in schools. The department's swift response and cooperation with law enforcement agencies are crucial in ensuring that justice is served.
