Warning to the Public: Stay Away from Mabula Mountain
This is a message from Mr. Quentin regarding safety concerns at Mabula Mountain.
Early this morning, around 00:11, we received a distress call about three individuals who fell at nearly the same location as a previous incident involving another person. I, along with one other volunteer, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, we found one individual with injuries at the top of the mountain. He informed us that three of them had fallen. We ensured he was taken to the hospital by a SAPS member.
At approximately 00:45, we proceeded further down the mountain and discovered another man with serious injuries to his head and leg. While treating him, we heard someone shouting for help further down. We dispatched one volunteer to locate the third individual, who was found with minor injuries and was able to climb back up with assistance.
EMS and SAPS arrived shortly after and took over first aid. Given the severity of the injuries, we determined it was unsafe to carry the seriously injured man out ourselves. We then awaited a volunteer rope rescue team from Magalakwena, who assisted in safely extracting the last man at dawn.
I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to:
- Magalakwena Fire and Rescue for their prompt assistance.
- Provincial EMS.
- SAPS.
- The Matlabas team and all volunteers who selflessly dedicated their time to support our community.
We wish the affected individuals a speedy recovery.
Please urge everyone to stay away from Mabula Mountain, as it is extremely unsafe, particularly at night.
