Limpopo Police Foil Smuggling Operation, Recover Stolen Toyota Fortuner*
In a significant blow to vehicle smuggling syndicates, the Limpopo police have intercepted a stolen Toyota Fortuner VX that was destined for illegal export. The successful operation was conducted on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, along the N1 North, near Peter Mokaba Stadium ¹.
According to reports, the police received intelligence about the stolen vehicle, which was traveling from Gauteng Province towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry. A joint team comprising the Anti-Smuggling Team, Polokwane LCRC, and external law enforcement partners was deployed to monitor the suspected vehicle.
Upon spotting the vehicle, the police swiftly stopped it for investigation. Verification on-site confirmed that the Toyota Fortuner had been reported stolen over the weekend at Pretoria Central. The driver, a 43-year-old South African male, was arrested, and the vehicle, valued at R800,000, was seized ¹.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the operational teams for their swift action and successful interception. "This operational success highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and the strong partnerships we have with various role players," said Lieutenant General Hadebe ¹.
The suspect is set to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Thursday, April 3, 2025, facing charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle ¹.
