Ritavi Magistrate Court Hands Down Life Imprisonment to Rapist*



In a significant victory for justice, the Ritavi Magistrate Court has sentenced 33-year-old Phillip Nkuna Ngomane to life imprisonment for the rape of a 15-year-old girl. The incident occurred on October 3, 2016, in Babanana village, Letsitele policing area ¹.


According to reports, the victim was walking home when Ngomane produced a firearm, dragged her to nearby bushes, and raped her three times before fleeing the scene. The victim reported the incident to her family, who immediately notified the local police.


Sergeant Sharon Phumudzo Mabongo led the investigation, which resulted in Ngomane's arrest on July 26, 2017. Ngomane was also linked to another rape case involving a 19-year-old female victim through forensic DNA analysis ¹.


Ngomane made multiple court appearances and was granted R2,500 bail on July 25, 2023. However, he was found guilty on January 21, 2025, and sentenced to life imprisonment on March 31, 2025 ¹.


Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, praised the court's verdict and encouraged law enforcement officials to continue working tirelessly to rid society of criminals like Ngomane ¹.
