POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the good work by men and women in blue who worked tirelessly resulting in the apprehension of a 27 year old male suspect in connection with a brutal murder of a woman who's body was found covered with a plastic bag.

(Alleged Suspect) (Alleged Victim) The police in Tinmyne under Waterberg District were alerted to this gruesome discovery of a lifeless body of female victim,  which was in an advanced state of decomposition, wrapped with a plastic bag under the bridge on Sunday 23 March 2025 at about 13:10 .  Responding to the gruesome scen, the police conducted an intelligence driven operation led by SAPS Mahwelereng detectives and Tinmyn. The operation yielded positive results and a suspect was identified and subsequently  arrested at Mookgophong on Saturday, 12 April 2025. Preliminary reports revealed that the suspect allegedly committed murder at Rosslyn, Pretoria north in Gauteng, then disposed of her body at Mamatlakala bridge village in Limpopo Province Waterberg District. A year after the tragic murder of Roman Catholic Priest, William Banda, the Limpopo Police are still searching for the suspect responsible. On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the 38-year-old priest was fatally shot twice in the head by an unknown assailant inside the Roman Catholic Church in Aquer Park, Tzaneen ¹. The suspect, described as wearing a black trouser, brown shirt, and waistcoat, with a clean black cut and small goatee beard, fled the scene in an unidentified motor vehicle. The police have released an identikit of the suspect and are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding his whereabouts. Three Rhino Poachers Sentenced to Lengthy Prison Terms in Limpopo

 Three rhino poachers, Kholwani Mwembe, Emmanuel Marombedze, and Stephen Tshoeu, have been handed lengthy prison sentences by the Mahwelereng Regional Court. After pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit rhino poaching, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition, the court sentenced them to 5 years' imprisonment or a fine of R5,000 for the conspiracy charge, 4 years' imprisonment or a fine of R4,000 for the firearm charge, and 2 years' imprisonment or a fine of R2,000 for the ammunition charge.  The sentences will run concurrently. This conviction demonstrates the commitment of the Limpopo police to combating wildlife crime, according to Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe ¹.

In a significant blow to vehicle smuggling syndicates, the Limpopo police have intercepted a stolen Toyota Fortuner VX that was destined for illegal export. The successful operation was conducted on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, along the N1 North, near Peter Mokaba Stadium ¹. According to reports, the police received intelligence about the stolen vehicle, which was traveling from Gauteng Province towards the Beitbridge Port of Entry. A joint team comprising the Anti-Smuggling Team, Polokwane LCRC, and external law enforcement partners was deployed to monitor the suspected vehicle. In a significant victory for justice, the Ritavi Magistrate Court has sentenced 33-year-old Phillip Nkuna Ngomane to life imprisonment for the rape of a 15-year-old girl. The incident occurred on October 3, 2016, in Babanana village, Letsitele policing area ¹. According to reports, the victim was walking home when Ngomane produced a firearm, dragged her to nearby bushes, and raped her three times before fleeing the scene. The victim reported the incident to her family, who immediately notified the local police. Sergeant Sharon Phumudzo Mabongo led the investigation, which resulted in Ngomane's arrest on July 26, 2017. Ngomane was also linked to another rape case involving a 19-year-old female victim through forensic DNA analysis ¹. POLOKWANE – The Modimolle Regional Court has rendered a decisive verdict, sentencing 43-year-old Elias Sello Cry Ngoepe to a total of 20 years of direct imprisonment for committing two separate rape incidents in the Vaalwater policing precinct, within the Waterberg District. In both cases, DNA evidence was instrumental in linking Ngoepe to these heinous crimes. He was located in Rustenburg Prison, where he was already detained for separate rape allegations. Following this discovery, he was formally arrested on 29 May 2023 for the Vaalwater incidents.
